Home Nan's I Care Blog One Day at a Time

One of the tremendously valuable lessons I'm learning in caregiving, is to take it one day at a time. Another basic lesson we all need, right? Then, why is it so hard to remember?

When I think of doing caregiving for one more week, or months, or (horrors!) years, I totally despair. I don't think I have that much strength, or think I couldn't stand our living situation, so changed, for that long, and I simply can't go there in my thoughts. The thrilling thing to me is that God doesn't ask me to go there either. Now, of course, you must make some plans, but caregiving is a day by day endeavor.

Can I remind you what God says about our day?

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34  You know that's right!

I have always enjoyed how God took care of King Johiachin in captivity. I'm giving you all the verses of this account so that you can observe... it was a long captivity, that although we go through long trials, they don't last forever, that God provides even in captivity, and so much more... make your own observations!

"Now it came about in the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, showed favor to Jehoiachin king of Judah and brought him out of prison. Then he spoke kindly to him and set his throne above the thrones of the kings who were with him in Babylon. So Jehoiachin changed his prison clothes, and had his meals in the king's presence regularly all the days of his life. For his allowance, a regular allowance was given him by the king of Babylon, a daily portion all the days of his life until the day of his death." Jeremiah 52:31-34

A daily portion, not monthly, not yearly, DAILY! Just take it a day at a time. Pray "give me this day, my daily bread!" Eat in THE King's presence every day of your life. He will give what you need each day. Not what you need tomorrow, today! Do you need grace? He'll give it. Do you need help? He'll send it. Do you need.... (fill in the blank)? He will give you TODAY what you need. (Not what you think you need, by the way.) This makes me so happy, I could jump for joy!

As I was writing this Craig started singing... "Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before." I asked him where that came from, and he said he didn't know. It wasn't what he was thinking about! I know! It was the Spirit of God singing to me! Remember, it's not only strength and help etc. that He gives daily, it's also sweetness because you are walking with the Savior.

Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.
Every day with Jesus, I love Him more and more;
Jesus saves and keeps me, and He's the One I'm waiting for.
Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.

Just what I needed to hear! Thanks again, and thanks be to God, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God! ( II Cor. 1:4 )
