Home Nan's I Care Blog The Call

In my first caregiving blog, I mentioned that caregiving is a calling from God. Let me explain.

My husband and I both have cell phones. I keep mine with me at all times and answer it. He is another story. (I'm always teasing him about not answering his phone!) Right now he is waiting for a call, so he put his phone next to me. Why? Because I answer phones! Well, the truth is he had to take a shower, but still, I think this is funny just when I'm writing about our cell phones. OK, now he's done and he just asked if there were any phone calls for him! This is the point of my blog…keep listening!)

I answer the phone because it is my connection with mom or with whoever is caregiving when I'm not. On occasion I get to run home and sneak in a nap because someone else is mom sitting. Ahhhh! Lovely! But, I have dear friends who call or text and I have to answer the call, because it might be about mom. So much for the nap. Yes, I've figured how to get around it with lots of explanations like "don't call between two and four" or various other clever methods. But my long winded point is, I have to answer the call!

I was thinking about God's call. Sadly, you don't have to answer it, but the loss is yours! God's call is His invitation to you. He calls you to trust His Son, the Lord Jesus, to save you from your sin. Please answer His call. Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved. He promises! It's a call to stop trying to save yourself and simply, trust Him.

Once you accept Him, He calls you to a life lived for Him. He has a journey, a calling for you, but again, you must answer it! I realize that God's call for me right now is caregiving. He has invited me to it. It didn't seem as exciting as, well, the call to marry Craig Rolinger, or the call to speak in the Bahamas (which, Lord willing, I get to answer in the fall) or… well, you get the idea. I was very wrong about that! This is a call to suffer and to sacrifice and to serve. It is a call to tears. It is a call to be cast on God. It is a call to personal spiritual awakening and renewal. It is a call to be conformed to the image of the Lord Jesus. It is a call to love and care for what He loves and cares for, widows.

I'm thankful that I answered this call. It's life changing!

Hey, there is a call for you! Answer it!

Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
