One of my most frequent prayers is: "Lord, I don't know what to do." I have wonderful friends who always seem to know what to do. Not me! I'm pretty pathetic and thankful God hears that particular prayer. However, God has shown me that's only half a prayer!
Saturday morning I woke up with this verse immediately on my mind.
"...nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You." 2 Chronicles 20:12 I enjoy this verse, but I don't think about every day, so I had to stop and think about my day. Was there something with mom in which I was in a quandary? No. I didn't feel especially desperate that morning in not knowing what to do, so I braced myself for the moment I was sure would come, when I would cry "Lord, I don't know what to do!"
Later that morning, I gave mom breakfast and we read the Choice Gleanings calendar which had this thought:
"Neither know we what to do: but our eyes [are] upon thee." 2 Chronicles 20:12 "I don't know what to do. How often in a desperate moment have we breathed these words? Life can be very difficult, problems within families, problems at work, problems with poor health, problems with finances. How it changes things and brings tranquility if we face these situations by turning our eyes upon the Lord and trusting Him to be our helper and strength." -M. Robins
Yikes! Twice within a few hours! Now I braced myself. I was sure something was coming. I waited all day for the desperate moment to arrive when I would cry out to God. It didn't come that day. Will you laugh if I tell you I was a little disappointed because I had my word from the Lord? I was ready.
The desperate moment having never arrived, in the evening, I meditated on God's purposes for giving me this verse twice in such a short period of time. I had to actually think about the verse. What was it saying? Ah! God was feeding me the second half of that prayer. My eyes were more focused on the not knowing what to do than on God! I don't have to know what to do! BUT I can fix my eyes on the ONE who DOES know what to do! What assurance! What a lovely prayer! When I don't know what to do, I can by faith say, "but my eyes are on You!" That is the most important part of the prayer, isn't it?
